Turmesac® / Overview

About Turmesac®

Turmesac® is a scientifically evaluated, full-spectrum phytochemical composition derived from turmeric rhizome. Developed by Star Hi Herbs Pvt. Ltd., it combines complementary fractions of Curcuma longa to deliver more than isolated curcumin alone.

01 / Definition

What is Turmesac®?

The formulation brings together a spray-dried aqueous turmeric extract, a curcuminoid-rich ethanolic extract and naturally derived turmeric oil. This synergistic matrix is designed to preserve the diversity of turmeric phytochemicals while supporting absorption, systemic retention and multiple biological pathways.

Turmesac® is a proprietary and registered turmeric rhizome composition developed from Curcuma longa L., a botanical belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. Unlike conventional turmeric ingredients that focus primarily on isolated curcumin, Turmesac® combines three complementary turmeric fractions.

  • 95% spray-dried aqueous extract of turmeric rhizome
  • 3% ethanolic curcuminoid extract
  • 2% turmeric oil

The manufacturing process begins with steam distillation to separate and collect turmeric oil. The remaining turmeric rhizome is extracted with water under reflux, concentrated under vacuum and spray-dried to produce a free-flowing powder. The aqueous extract is then blended with the curcuminoid fraction and turmeric oil to create the finished Turmesac® matrix.

This composition provides water-extractable turmeric constituents alongside curcuminoids and volatile-oil components. Turmeric rhizome naturally contains curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin and volatile compounds such as turmerones.

02 / Differentiation

What makes Turmesac® different?

Turmesac® is designed around phytochemical synergy. Standard curcumin extracts concentrate one group of compounds, while Turmesac® preserves multiple fractions that can work together within a broader botanical matrix.

Preclinical bioavailability data show detectable absorption of both curcuminoids and polysaccharide-associated fractions, with systemic concentrations reported from 30 minutes through 24 hours. This profile is associated with enhanced cellular uptake, sustained systemic retention and improved tissue distribution compared with isolated curcumin and other turmerosaccharide preparations.

  • A defined 95:3:2 turmeric phytochemical composition
  • Supported by 12 preclinical studies across in-vitro and in-vivo models
  • Documented in six international scientific publications
  • Evaluated for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity
  • Studied for cytotoxic and apoptosis-inducing activity in selected cancer cell lines
  • Supported by acute and 28-day sub-acute toxicology data
  • Manufactured within an ISO 9001:2015 and FSSC 22000 certified quality system
  • Suitable for multiple nutraceutical and functional-food formats
03 / Salient features

Salient features

Full-spectrum turmeric matrix

Turmesac® combines an aqueous turmeric rhizome extract, a curcuminoid fraction and turmeric oil rather than relying on curcumin as a single isolated molecule.

Preclinical anti-inflammatory activity

In animal models, Turmesac® produced dose-dependent inhibition of croton oil-induced ear edema and reduced histamine-induced paw edema. At 500 mg/kg, the study reported 58.65% inhibition after two hours and 57.25% after four hours in the ear-edema model. In LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages, Turmesac® reduced the expression of IL-8 and IL-12 compared with the LPS-treated group.

Antioxidant and liver-protective potential

Turmesac® reduced intracellular oxidative stress in hydrogen peroxide-challenged human liver cells. In a paracetamol-induced rat model, it lowered elevated SGOT, SGPT and bilirubin while supporting glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase and total protein levels. Histopathological observations also indicated reduced liver-tissue damage at the evaluated doses.

Evaluated safety profile

Acute oral testing evaluated doses up to 2,000 mg/kg body weight without reported mortality or acute toxic symptoms. A 28-day study evaluated 250, 500 and 1,000 mg/kg per day, with no reported Turmesac®-related changes in food intake, water consumption, body weight, clinical signs or organ histology.
