Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Turmesac® turmeric rhizome composition, bioactives, preclinical research, safety, formulation, samples and documentation.

Product

What is Turmesac®?

Turmesac® is a novel, synergistic phytochemical composition derived from the rhizome of turmeric, Curcuma longa. Unlike products based only on isolated curcumin, Turmesac® is designed to retain a broader spectrum of turmeric-derived bioactive compounds working together within a natural phytochemical matrix. It has been researched for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and liver-health applications, with additional preclinical research examining its activity in selected cancer cell lines.

What is Turmesac® standardized to?

Turmesac® is manufactured to a defined composition of 95% spray-dried turmeric water extract, 3% ethanolic curcuminoid extract and 2% turmeric oil. Batch-specific analytical values are provided on the Certificate of Analysis.

What are the principal bioactives in Turmesac®?

The Turmesac® matrix includes water-extractable turmeric constituents, curcuminoids and turmeric oil components. Key constituents include turmeric polysaccharides (turmerosaccharides), curcumin and related curcuminoids, and volatile-oil constituents such as turmerones. Marker values are available in the current product specification.

How is Turmesac® different from a generic curcumin extract?

Generic curcumin ingredients often focus primarily on an isolated curcuminoid fraction. Turmesac® is a broader phytochemical matrix that combines turmeric water extract, curcuminoids and turmeric oil. Its research base includes 12 preclinical investigations and six international publications covering bioavailability, inflammation, oxidative stress, liver protection and cytotoxicity models.

Is Turmesac® more bioavailable than isolated curcumin?

Bioavailability research on Turmesac® showed detectable absorption of both curcuminoid and polysaccharide fractions, with concentrations remaining measurable for up to 24 hours. This profile is associated with greater absorption and longer systemic retention than isolated curcumin and other turmerosaccharide preparations.

02 / Evidence

Evidence

What benefits are supported by Turmesac® research?

Preclinical research supports further investigation of Turmesac® for modulation of inflammatory responses, antioxidant and free-radical-scavenging activity, protection of liver cells and liver architecture in experimental models, suppression of selected inflammatory cytokines, and cytotoxicity and apoptosis induction in selected cancer cell lines. These findings are preclinical and do not establish that Turmesac® diagnoses, treats or prevents disease in humans.

What anti-inflammatory evidence is available?

In croton-oil-induced ear-edema and histamine-induced paw-edema models, Turmesac® produced dose-dependent reductions in experimentally induced swelling at 250 and 500 mg/kg. In an LPS-stimulated macrophage model, Turmesac® at 50 µg/mL reduced the measured expression of IL-8 and IL-12 compared with LPS-stimulated cells.

What liver-health evidence is available?

Turmesac® has been evaluated in human liver cell lines exposed to hydrogen peroxide and in a paracetamol-induced liver-injury model in rats. The studies reported reductions in oxidative stress, improvements in liver biochemical markers and better preservation of liver architecture compared with untreated toxic-control groups.

03 / Safety and regulatory

Safety and regulatory

Is Turmesac® safe?

In an acute oral toxicity study, doses up to 2,000 mg/kg body weight produced no mortality or acute toxic symptoms. A 28-day sub-acute study at 250, 500 and 1,000 mg/kg reported no Turmesac®-related toxic effects across the evaluated clinical, biochemical, haematological, organ-weight and histopathological parameters. These findings come from animal toxicology studies.

Is Turmesac® Non-GMO, Kosher, Halal, vegan, gluten-free or allergen-free?

Current product declarations, including allergen and Non-GMO statements, and available Kosher and Halal certificates can be requested from the Star Hi Herbs quality team.

Is Turmesac® approved in the United States, European Union or India?

Regulatory suitability depends on the intended dosage, finished-product category, claims, formulation and target country. Patent, publication or preclinical-study status does not constitute market approval. Finished-product manufacturers should conduct a market-specific regulatory assessment before launch.

04 / Formulation

Formulation

Can Turmesac® be used in beverages, shots or gummies?

Yes. Turmesac® is suitable for instant beverages, golden milk, functional teas, ready-to-mix drinks, wellness shots, gummies and capsules. We recommend testing each formulation for dispersion, taste, colour, sedimentation, pH compatibility and stability.

Is Turmesac® water-dispersible or heat-stable?

Turmesac® disperses in water and is used in a wide range of beverage formats. Contact the Star Hi Herbs technical team for stability guidance relevant to your processing conditions, including heat exposure.

What does Turmesac® pair well with?

Turmesac® may be evaluated in antioxidant, healthy-inflammatory-response, liver-health, mobility and active-ageing formulations, subject to compatibility, stability, serving-size and claims review.

What use level should formulators use?

The finished-product level should follow the current approved technical specification and applicable regulatory assessment. The Star Hi Herbs technical team can recommend use levels for your product format and target market.
