Turmesac® is a full-spectrum phytochemical composition derived from the rhizome of turmeric, Curcuma longa. Unlike conventional turmeric ingredients that isolate or concentrate a single curcuminoid, it combines water-extractable turmeric constituents, curcuminoids and volatile turmeric oil within one integrated botanical matrix.

01 / Composition

The active compounds

Turmesac® is a blend of:

  • 95% spray-dried aqueous turmeric rhizome extract
  • 3% ethanolic curcuminoid extract
  • 2% turmeric oil

The rhizome is first subjected to steam distillation to collect the turmeric oil. The remaining botanical material is extracted with water under reflux, concentrated under vacuum and spray dried into a free-flowing powder before final blending with the curcuminoid and oil fractions.

Turmeric polysaccharides

Complex botanical polysaccharides

Forms the principal water-extractable fraction of Turmesac® and contributes to its full-spectrum phytochemical matrix.

Turmeric polysaccharides were evaluated in the published Turmesac® research using a phenol-sulphuric acid ultraviolet method, with absorbance measured at 488 nm. Because polysaccharides are heterogeneous botanical polymers, they are represented schematically rather than as a single molecular structure.

Curcumin

Curcuminoid polyphenol

The principal curcuminoid associated with turmeric’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cellular signalling properties.

Curcumin is identified in the research as the major curcuminoid naturally present in turmeric. It is accompanied by structurally related curcuminoids rather than occurring as an isolated molecule within the Turmesac® matrix.

Expands the naturally occurring curcuminoid profile and supports the full-spectrum positioning of Turmesac®.

Bisdemethoxycurcumin

Curcuminoid polyphenol

A naturally co-occurring curcuminoid that complements curcumin and demethoxycurcumin within the phytochemical matrix.

Dihydrocurcumin

Hydrogenated curcuminoid

Adds further chemical diversity to the turmeric-derived curcuminoid fraction.

06 / C₁₅H₂₀O (representative)

Turmerone-rich turmeric oil

Volatile sesquiterpenoid oil

Provides a lipophilic aromatic fraction that complements the water-dispersible and polyphenolic components.

Turmeric rhizome contains volatile oils composed mainly of alpha-turmerone, beta-turmerone and monoterpenes. Turmesac® retains this fraction through steam distillation and the subsequent addition of 2% turmeric oil.

03 / Rationale

Why full-spectrum, not isolate

Isolating curcumin removes many of turmeric’s naturally co-occurring constituents. Turmesac® instead combines polar water-extractable compounds, curcuminoids and lipophilic volatile oils.

This broader matrix preserves turmeric polysaccharides, multiple curcuminoids and turmerone-rich oil in one composition. This phytochemical combination is designed to support enhanced cellular uptake, longer systemic retention and improved tissue distribution compared with isolated curcumin preparations.

The result is an ingredient designed around phytochemical synergy rather than the concentration of one molecule.

04 / Standardization

Standardization and analytical method

Manufacturing composition

  • Spray-dried aqueous turmeric rhizome extract: 95%
  • Ethanolic curcuminoid extract: 3%
  • Turmeric oil: 2%

Processing controls

Steam distillation, aqueous reflux extraction, vacuum concentration, spray drying and controlled final blending are used to produce the finished composition.

  • Odour and taste: characteristic of turmeric rhizome
  • Dispersibility: disperses in water
  • Stability, particle size and shelf life: available in the product specification

Turmeric polysaccharides are measured by a phenol-sulphuric acid UV-visible method at 488 nm. Curcuminoid assay values and individual compound limits are provided in the current product specification and batch Certificate of Analysis, available on request.
